Webber to retire from F1 for Porsche sportscar bid

Mark Webber surprised some in his Red Bull team by announcing he is to end his F1 tenure this year and join Porsche as lead driver in their sportscar return. Team boss Horner was informed just "5 minutes" before the public stating: "His achievements in Formula One are extensive", adding, "we support Mark's decision." This comes on the eve of the team's home race at Silverstone.

Christ almighty Horner, "extensive" achievements, "support his decision", given you have the emotional capacity of a stuffed owl, you could at least try and pretend you'll miss the guy.
Horner   Christian Horner
Well Fernando,Mark has always been a great team player, as exemplified in this latest selfless act where he has rightly ended his own career so we can devote time solely to Seb. One comment I would make is that while being impromptu is a very "Red Bull" thing to do, I am disappointed Mark only gave me 5 minutes notice of his decision.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Funny, that's about as much notice as you gave him when you swapped his front wing on Vettel's car back in Siverstone 2010. I'm not sure Webber wasn't fibbing when he said the new regulations were more of an issue than the Seb-factor.
Horner   Christian Horner
Adrian and I have analysed that comment, and given Mark has essentially been using 2009-spec machinery to save resources, we too find it odd he would be concerned about current or future regulations. Naturally out of respect for our driver, his future well-being is foremost in our mind, so we will indeed allow perfect Seb to choose somebody to support him next year.

Yessssssssssssss! I am the best, that is what I am talking about. Bye-bye Mark, multi-21. Ha ha. Yes! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing-a-ding-ding!
wibbah   Mark Webber
I'll ring-a-ding-ding your bloody neck before the season is out mate. I've a had fair-dinkum innings, time to stick me shrimp on another barbie. Me new Porsche looks flippin' awesome.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
As long as it doesn't look awesome when it's flippin'. Remember your last time at Le Mans in that Merc, I think you still hold the lap record there for a car travelling upside down.
JV   Jacques Villeneuve
Controversial Jacques is going to stick his neck on the line here to say that Mark may just possibly have made the same mistake as Michael and retired too early. Having tried a number of series post-F1 I can attest to the fact that it is difficult to find the same satisfaction in other forms of racing.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Well Kojak, unlike you Mark won't have to shave his head in a vain effort to make himself interesting, or attempt a musical career that makes Carla Bruni look like Mozart. On that subject, I heard the US government has found a use for your album in resolving their latest diplomatic spat.
JV   Jacques Villeneuve
I'm thrilled to hear that Michael. Although I'm never shy of chaos, confrontation, and controversy, I always knew the power of my album to elucidate both emotional and intellectual harmony.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Yeah, well, Obama dispatched a special agent to pipe that toxic album of yours into the PA system at Moscow airport. Apparently, Edward Snowden asked to be put on the first available flight to Washington. Congrats arsehead.
hammy   Lewis Hamilton
This frickin sucks, I was totally on a high after I got to fly with the Red Arrows this week, and now I hear Mark retires. I'd be totally HAM if I was in a Red Bull, my legacy would be mega.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Boo-hoo man-earrings, shoulda, woulda, coulda. Maybe you could go all "gangsta" on them to get hired. Careful, get itchy feet and you'll end up driving for more teams than Andrea de Cesaris. Best to stick with the tyre degradation machine you inherited from me.
diResta   Paul di Resta
Speaking as one legend to another Michael, I think it's obvious to everyone that it is almost a forgeone conclusion that Red Bull will hire an existing superstar, a quick, consistent, and media-savvy Scottish ace. It seems apt that F1 will now usher in what motorsport historians will refer to as the Newey-Di Resta era of dominance, an irresistible combo of the world's greatest designer and driver.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
I think you've more chance of being in a KFC combo. McLaren overlooked you, and Horner basically said you hadn't a snowballs, time to stick to that training the BBC are giving you. I wonder if driver steward Nigel Mansell will penalise you for your swelled head exceeding the max allowed dimensions this weekend.
NigelErnestJamesMansellOBE   Nigel Mansell
Although no stranger to the perils of not being able to fit in an F1 car Michael, as you may recall from my aborted comeback with McLaren in 1995, which I ended even after attempting to race an expensive and thorough chassis amendment, I am unaware of any regulations pertaining to the length, width, or height of a drivers head. Rest assured that I will leave no stone either turned, or unturned, to ensure that the regulations are scrupulously applied, or not applied, to all drivers this weekend. I will consult not only the regulations as delineated by the FIA, being the governing body of the sport, but also, in the interests of fairness, or potential unfairness, the Geneva convention. That extra 0.5 seconds that I got from the crowd at the British GP as a revered driver will be converted into the energy of an eagle-eyed Isle-of-Man special constable on the F1 beat.
Murray   Murray Walker
And... collosally... that's Nigel Mansell !
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Oh Murray, how sorely missed you are. I wonder if Suzi Perry will show up at Silverstone given Bernie did such a good job of convincing her the British GP was dropped that even Eddie Jordan visibly cringed.
SuzukiPerry   Suzi Perry
OMG!, OMG!, Michael no way could I miss this weekend's race with a British rider getting his maiden pole.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Er?... oh I see... you mean Crutchlow. Still talking out of your Assen then. I must congratulate you on achieving the extraordinary feat of being so inept as to make EJ appear to have the media skills of Johnny Carson.
bestofbritish   Jenson Button
If anyone wants to get a maiden pole at my Assen let me know. You might say it sucks, but I promise you'll be eagle-eyed once you've beaten my special constable.
