Mansell rumoured to join Sky as F1 pundit

The former world champion could be part of Sky Sports' Formula 1 line-up as a pundit next year. It has also been reported that Martin Brundle and BBC Radio 5 Live's David Croft will commentate. Ted Kravitz will be paddock reporter while Lee McKenzie has opted to stay with BBC. Simon Lazenby is expected to host the programme.

Mansell, hmmmm. I hope Sky know what they're letting themselves in for.

I'd just like to point out to all my fans that nothing is set in stone, nothing has been signed, and I can't comment on speculation until the necessary negotiations, if indeed there are any negotiations, regarding a role at Sky, if indeed there is a role at Sky, have taken place. Therefore I would ask everybody to contain their excitement at any possibility that I may, or indeed may not be, joining the F1 broadcast team of Sky Sports, a branch of British Sky Broadcasting. I cannot issue either a confirmation or a denial, although I also cannot comment that there is anything to either confirm or deny.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
There we go, master of the catchy soundbite.
Murray   Murray Walker
And look at that! It's Nigel Mansell!

Thank you Murray, it is always great to hear from you. Perhaps if at some point in the future I get a role covering F1 for a major broadcaster, although I must be clear in saying that such an event is neither likely nor unlikely, it may give us an opportunity to have the occasional repartee we were renowned for in some of the now classic, and oft repeated interviews you did with me post-race. Given you are in retirement, which incidentally I am no stranger to myself, these occasions, if they are to happen, would be all the more special.

Wooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaah ! Maaaaaaannselllllllllll ! I'm even more excitable than Murray.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Scream all you like Allen, Sky are not going to give you a job. Maybe you can use that free time to write another book about me.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Ah yes, no more wincing as your brain struggles to stay within 5 sentences of your mouth Jordan.
ej   Eddie Jordan
First of all I must say that I am appalled that an institution like Sky should leak such information when clearly nothing has been finalised. As a former team owner, of Jordan, I can give a much better insight than a former driver. To add to that, for god's sake Bernie get the Austin GP sorted, we need F1 in the US. I'd like to finish if I may by saying that I welcome these Sky leaks as the prospect of Mansell's drone might make the viewers appreciate my Oirish brogue and strengthen my chances to stay a pundit, although I am competing with a former F1 champ who can provide a better insight than any team boss.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
I was on the fence there but I think I'll take Mansell.
Teddy   Ted Kravitz
As long as I get to ......
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
Have to interrupt you there Ted. If I do go to Sky they'll have to accommodate my plans to enter Le Mans to boost my son's racing profile.

Although it may seem a bright idea to race with your son at Le Mans Martin, my own torrid experience taught me differently. Although hopes were high with myself, Leo, and Greg, sharing driving duties in a Ginetta-Zytek, at one of the most challenging and iconic circuits in the world, months of preparation came to naught. On lap 5, a sudden and devastating deflation of a tyre pitched me into the barrier with no hope of recovery, and although TV pictures did not do it justice, the impact resulted in a nasty race-ending concussion.
lee   Lee McKenzie
I'm staying put guys so now the BBC will have to show a lot more of me in their coverage.
DC   David Coulthard
I can't believe Lazenby is the new presenter Martin, he was crap in Her Majesty's Secret Service.
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
Jesus David. That was George Lazenby.

Just don't forget about me guys, you can still tweet me day or night. Lots of interesting points there, but Lee has raised an interesting question. Just what aspect of Lee would the viewers like to see a lot more of next year? Tweet me.
